Wow, what a crazy few days. After leaving Villas de Oros, which was aboslutely incredible, we decided to camp in a campground on the beach just outside of Uvita right in front of a perfect surf spot. We strung our hammock 5 ft. from our vehicle, locked the doors, and listned to the sound of the waves and coastal jungle put us to sleep. Kevin woke at 3:30 am to find the two far doors and the glove box open. We noticed our wallets were missing, my iphone and then the kicker; our bag with our computer in it was gone along with a bunch of other traveling necessities.
We spent yesterday driving to Puerto Cortez to file a report just in case anything turned up. When they told us there was nothing they could do unless we had the reciept to the computer and phone we left feeling a little hopeless until we met Jason! Jason is a local who know's everybody and said he would try to help us recover some of our things. We told him where he could find us and at 9:00 last night he road up to where we were staying and said he found the guy who stole all our stuff. He brought us to the police station to translate and met us back there this morning to file a report. The Dome Drive Thru was so amazing and so helpful, while we waited for the Costa Rican Police to raid the house of the guy who stole our things they provided us with food and computers so that we could contact family and friends for some help! After a few hours the Costa Rican FBI came by The Dome Drive Thru and brought us our COMPUTER!!!!!!!!! They are working on retrieving some other things as of now but we are so grateful for the people that have helped us these past couple days. Im so happy that there are more good than bad people in this world and that people care enough to take a whole day to help another person out. Costa Rica is a beautiful place with beautiful people. Just last summer our car was robbed right in our driveway in front of our home outside of Buffalo. It happens everywhere but what was incredible was the way so many people came to help in Costa Rica and family back home. Traveling can sometimes be tough and even a little stressful. But if you stay positive and keep smiling things just seem to get better. Today we pulled in to the Macaw Lodge outside of Jaco where we have already seen so much incredible beauty and learned so much. Check back tomorrow to see the Macaw Lodge in the mountains of Costa Rica! |
