Day 5 of our adventure in Costa Rica we went on a jungle trek for the first time in our lives. This jungle, just north of the Osa Peninsula in Uvita is home to several species of large cats, giant anteaters, 3 species of monkeys, snakes, crocs, caimans, and so much more! The trail started right from our jungle villa at Villas de Oros where we were led by our fearless guide Dobby the dog.
Dobby knew the way the whole time but at one point we didn't trust him and got ourselves lost. Once we listened to Dobby we were back on the trail and what we found was absolutely incredible. This place is the closest thing to paradise we've ever seen. Playa Tortuga, or Turtle Beach, is a remote stretch of beach lined with coconut palms and jungle. A shallow fresh water stream from the mountains was the perfect place to cool off in a setting that cannot be beat. After our hike and a little siesta we had to go back to the Dome Drive-Thru where we got to try their world famous stuffed sweet potatoes! Needless to say we will be going back again!

SUP Costa Rica Day 4:
Happy Birthday Christian!! We woke at 5am to meet up with Tito from Uvita 360 to check out Dominical for a sunrise surf session. A decent swell came in and the waves were a little heavy for us so we went back to Playa Uvita where the waves are perfect. After a few hours of surfing (the first time Christian surfed on her birthday!) we went to Playa Ventana where we explored some incredible sea caves. First, we took our Pau Hana Big EZ Air SUPs out to sea to check out some caves for possible deep water soloing but the sea was too rough to enter. So we explored some other caves right off the beach that were incredible. This place is the closest thing to paradise we have ever seen. Mountains and jungle meet the coast where every beach is a post card lined with coconut palm trees and perfect surf. For dinner we went to a local grocery store to get some food to grill back at Villas de Oros. We couldn’t decide between steak or chicken so we got both! The fruit we got from the market was unbelievable, so colorful and so juicy!! We sat and ate with Vikki the owner of Villas de Oros and she told us some great stories about this land and the beautiful creatures that live here. She has been so wonderful and made this trip so special for us we couldn’t be more grateful to have met her. We love this place so much we have decided to extend our stay for two more nights in the jungle to the ocean! Tomorrow we are hiking from Villas de Oros through the jungle with our guide Dobe, Vikki’s dog!! That’s right, a dog is our guide through the JUNGLE! WNY Expeditioners After a phenomenal breakfast we learned some hard, valuable lessons. Don't book a rental car in a foreign country through Travelocity, take locals advice and always bring more money than you think you need! Driving was somewhat challenging and it was a tough second day on the road. We saw crocodiles for our first time and they are ridiculously scary! I pretended I was Mick Dundee for the rest of the day!
Once we got in the water all of our stress and worries from earlier in the day washed away. We met Good Time Charlie down in Domincal who's vibes were off the chart! From there we made our way down the coast to Uvita where we had one of the best dinners ever at The Dome Drive-Thru. Kevin had this delicious jerk chicken burrito with cinnamon and ginger that knocked his flip flops off! We also enjoyed the biggest coconut of our lives at Playa Uvita where the beach is shaped like a whales tail! Pulling into Villas de Oros where we will be staying for the next two nights gave me butterflies! It's a magical place tucked away in the jungle with monkeys, toucans, macaws and anteaters! Our villa has a deck hanging over the jungle with a hammock chair that swings in the breeze which is where I'll be sitting for the rest of the night listening to the sounds of the Jungle!!!
